While it's important to give your truck proper maintenance, your semi trailer deserves some attention as well. Find out how you should service your semi trailer and why it matters.
The Importance of Regular Maintenance
Your semi trailer doesn't have an engine, but that doesn't mean it can't give you trouble. Without proper maintenance, your trailer can cause some serious issues. For one, the electrical system could go out. And without lights, you can't use it. There's also the tractor-trailer connection. Without the connection, you lose stability systems, anti-rollover systems, and more. It puts you and your rig at risk. Fortunately, regular maintenance can avoid those problems.
1. The Trailer's Interior
What's on the inside matters. The maintenance of your trailer's interior matters just as much as the exterior. Look for scratches and scuffs on the wall and fix them. If you wait, they could let moisture in and cause more problems. You should also check underneath the trailer for cracks.
2. Electric system
Electric systems need grease to work. And sometimes, that grease dries out. Before you find yourself sidelined because your electric has failed, make sure your systems have enough grease. Just be sure not to over-do it. It's also a good idea to look at your tractor-trailer connection. There could be corrosion or other issues.
3. Regular inspections
Don't limit your inspections to your annual DOT inspection. You should regularly inspect your trailer every few months. Repair cuts on the wall as soon as you find them to prevent further damage. Keep an eye out for corrosion, and inspect all the seals, gaskets, and vents on the trailer.
You can limit the maintenance your trailer needs by using high-quality parts. For more information on our semi trailer products, contact us.
