One of the biggest expenses that you will have with a semi-trailer is regular replacement of tires. Due to the size and weight of semi-trailers, tires do tend to wear more quickly than tires on other types of vehicles. However, you can extend the life of your tires by taking care of them. The most important thing that you need to do is ensure that the tire pressure is adequate. Tire pressure should be checked at least once per day and prior to every trip. This can not only help the tires last longer but can avoid an untimely blow out.
Being able to stop a trailer quickly and having quality brakes is very important. To ensure that your brakes are working well, you should have them inspected regularly. Some items to inspect include the angle of the slack adjuster and chamber push rod and the measurement of the brake drum. If these measurements are not acceptable, they should be replaced immediately.
You also need to ensure the interior and cabin of the trailer is in good shape. You should spend time focusing on the roof and sides of the trailer. If there are small holes or cracks, it could cause leaks that could damage the products you are shipping. All minor cracks should be repaired immediately. This will protect the current shipment and will also prevent the crack from growing further.
